When we eat high-fiber foods like whole grains, vegetables, nuts and fruits, we feed our good bacteria in the gut (the second brain). We want to keep these bacteria happy because they help with the digestion of food and produce hormones that make us feel good. The special type of fiber that is food for our intestinal bacteria is called prebiotics, which includes inulin. It has been shown that eating fibers is stimulating the growth of good bacteria in the guts (1).
