Ashwagandha is an evergreen shrub that has been traditionally used in India for more than 3000 years to manage stress, anxiety, and depression and to improve cognitive health. The main ingredients are withanolides, such as withaferin A (1). Recently, research has shown that ashwagandha combined with exercise can lower stress levels and reduces anxiety (2, 3, 4, 5) however more research is needed to prove its health benefits.
